terra incognita

during the 19th century, the term terra incognita disappeared from maps, since both the coastlines and the inner parts of the continents had been fully explored.  today, as we are able to name and categorize the vastness that surrounds us, terra incognita  instead becomes a term for unexplored territory of the internal and ethereal.

these microcosmically fabricated landscapes are intended to simultaneously challenge our perceptions of what lies within, and what lies beyond. (2014)
